Boarding Welcome

Modern family life requires a constant balance of work and school commitments. After-school clubs, homework and keeping up friendships are an additional factor in time-poor lives. Boarding provides a welcome opportunity for our families who are looking for logistical solutions in a caring atmosphere.

We understand that our boarders come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Service families, families in which both parents work long hours. Families who are abroad in Europe or further afield. Families who are looking for greater educational stability.

We believe that the combination of our strong Christian values, broad range of extra curricular activities, excellent pastoral care and compelling academic results offer an ideal environment to meet the needs of our boarding families.

In lower school we offer part-time boarding in addition to full time boarding for local families. This is available to those who live locally and allows students the flexibility to board 2 or 3 pre-arranged nights a week and enjoy time at home.

We also offer two Sixth Form part-time boarding packages. These allow students to stay either 2 pre-arranged nights or 4 nights a week with the added benefit of a study room from Monday to Friday.

Boarding at Sexey’s

Sexey’s provides a fantastic environment for young people to become confident young adults. There is a tangible sense of family and joy in our MacmillanLisbury and Coombe Houses. The House Parents, Matrons, and Tutors share a tireless work ethic. We enjoy working with all of our boarders’ families to ensure that they have the best possible experience at Sexey’s.

Boarding visit to Longleat festival of lightsWe offer termly and part-time boarding (plus an occasional boarding offer for existing day students), and a range of activities is available for those Boarders who stay at weekends. For example: drumming workshops, pottery painting, trips to Splashdown Water Park, Thorpe Park, Stonehenge and Cadbury World and surfing. At Christmas, we often visit the nearby Longleat Festival of Light (pictured).

All Boarders vacate the boarding houses at exeat weekends and all school holidays. For more details on arrangements around exeats and holidays, please read the information here.

We do ask that parents are aware that Sexey’s does not organise or recommend Guardians for international students. Parents who live outside of the UK must arrange their own Guardian for their child prior to accepting a place.

Cost of State Boarding

As a state boarding school parents only pay the cost of boarding as education is covered by the state. This means that rather than paying £30,000+ a year for an independent boarding school, you will pay around £15,000 a year. You can learn more about eligibility for state boarding here.

Pastoral Support

We recognise that our boarders may need additional emotional and pastoral support, which is managed by our experienced pastoral teams. These comprise of our Houseparents, Assistant Houseparents and Matrons. Sexey’s also has a number of trained counsellors on the staff. We have a dedicated Pastoral Hub for students to come and register their concerns with a member of the school pastoral team, or to take time out. Boarders also benefit from clinics at our Health Centre, which is staffed by a highly experienced and caring team, led by our Qualified Nurse.

Location

We are set in idyllic Bruton in Somerset, voted among the Sunday Times’ top 20 best places to live. Sexey’s has excellent transport links to London, the South West and Wales.
