The Bint Shield Competition

Bint Shield

Sexey’s School’s Bint Shield competition is a core part of our School history. The shield trophy was first awarded in 1924 to the winners of the Inter-House Championship, which is a competition that runs throughout the school year. Everyone in the school community is involved and events can include sport, culture, theatre, science, art, music and all other school subjects.

Did you know?

  • By 2020, the Bint Shield had been awarded 95 times
  • The Bint Shield was originally a ‘Boarding’ v ‘Day Student’ competition
  • The names of the first Houses at Sexey’s School were Cliff, East and West. All the boarders were in Cliff House and they traditionally won all of the Bint Shield activities as the Housemaster trained them heavily!
  • During the 1970s, four Houses were formed with boarders in each House. As a result, more fixtures and a more equal competition was offered. The PE department was allowed to allocate students to Houses to make the teams as fair as possible.

Who was Bint?

F C Bint (1893-1898) was a pupil of ex-Sexey’s Headmaster W. Knight. His son, R J Bint (1927-1932) and his grandsons David (1966-1973) and Robert (1973-1980) Bint also attended Sexey’s School.
