Meet the Houseparents
Senior Houseparent: Mr Nick Thayre
“I have a real commitment to all the children and young people I work with. I like to identify their strengths; and build on these. When they get things wrong (and we all do!) I will help them to think about how they can improve and get it right in the future. I like to encourage our students, help them to make good decisions and work hard, and praise them in all the good that they do.
“I joined Sexey’s Boarding in September 2021, having previously worked in a range of social work settings, including Residential Children’s Homes, Residential Schools, and as a Social Worker and Team Manager in Child Protection, Fostering, and work with Young Offenders. I have also been a foster carer of teenagers for over 20 years. I switched careers from social work to education two years ago; and I have to say that I am enjoying every moment of it.
“My own children, Joshua, Harriet, and Rosie, are all adults and married. I’m now also a proud grandad to Amelia, Oliver and Barney.”
Assistant Houseparent: Mr Jonathan Hall
Assistant Houseparent: Mrs Heather Sanger
“I have worked in independent schools for 34 years until I joined Sexey’s as well as being an Assistant House parent I also work part-time in the Health Centre. I love to interact with the young people I work with and enjoy helping them to bake, cook as well as doing arts and crafts with them.
“I do a lot of voluntary work within the community in Shaftesbury where I live I help run the local youth club once a week which includes a group called Little Giants which is a youth club for children and young people with additional needs that runs once a month on a Saturday morning.
“I am also a trustee for a charity which my daughter and a couple of her friends set up called BOOBS (Shaftesbury Breast Cancer Awareness). The charity helps ladies and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and going through treatment. Our aim is to help wherever we can and this charity was set up in memory of one of their friends who sadly lost her life to Breast Cancer at the age of 35.
“I live with my husband and have 2 children and am a granny to 4 grandchildren. During my time off I enjoy walking and I have 3 Labradors which keep me fit whilst relaxing and I enjoy reading and seeing my grandchildren.”

Bringing a wealth of experience to the Boarding House, Mrs Watts was a House Assistant in a local Independent school for 6 years.
