Meet our School Nurse: Mrs Sandiford

School nurse M SandifordMora Sandiford was born in Glasgow and attended Craigholme School before training to become a Registered General Nurse at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow. She worked in the NHS in Scotland for several years specialising in gastrointestinal surgery before becoming a pharmaceutical sales rep in Lanarkshire.

Mora’s husband was serving in the Army when they married and she then travelled with her family, living in different parts of the UK, Canada, Germany and Zimbabwe as well as spending time in Kenya. It was during this time that she returned to nursing, concentrating on family nursing and the care sector. During her time in Germany however, Mora was introduced to school nursing as she worked for Services Children Education Authority at the Windsor School and found the challenges, energy and opportunities involved in delivering the pupils’ care and supporting their development hugely rewarding. As a result, she decided to concentrate on working with Young Persons and Young Adults and joined the medical staff at Clayesmore School. She has a particular interest in sports injuries and Young Person’s mental health, in addition to her continued RGN professional developmentand likes to create an atmosphere which encourages children and young adults to speak openly and safely.

Mora has three grown up children who were all pupils at a boarding school, so she is very aware of the challenges that pupils and parents face especially when unwell and at other times and believes that as the School Nurse, she has a key role to play within the school’s pastoral care system.
