Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR wows audiences

Last week, our Music and Drama Departments transported audiences into a world of imagination, adventure and a certain rather magical car, with their vibrant production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. The show was an uplifting celebration of teamwork, creativity, and student talent, earning enthusiastic applause from parents, staff and pupils alike.

From the moment the curtain rose, the cast delivered a performance full of warmth and charm. Vivienne, Luke and Minna brought the characters of Caractacus Potts and his children to life with confidence and heart, guiding the audience through the story’s delightful blend of humour and heroism. Truly Scrumptious was portrayed by Thea with poise and excellent vocal control, while Izzy and Florence as the Baron and Baroness were a comedic triumph, oozing exaggerated eccentricity and playful wickedness with every entrance.

The villainous duo of Boris and Goran played by Spike and Tansy kept the audience laughing with their comic timing and physical theatre. Tom’s performance as Grandpa charmed from the moment he appeared, capturing the character’s adventurous spirit and gentle warmth while Olivia’s Toymaker was equally impressive, bringing a quiet bravery and kindness to the role and Rosa’s Child Catcher added just the right amount of menace, creating a thrilling edge of tension.

One of the evening’s highlights was undoubtedly the ensemble work. Whether playing Sweet Factory workers, Vulgarian villagers, or the spirited children of Vulgaria, those mentioned above ably accompanied by Amber, Bea, Ellie, Emily, Ivy and Max filled the stage with energy and character. Their commitment to choreography and harmonies created a lively atmosphere that captured the essence of the much‑loved musical.

A special applause must go to the technical and creative teams. The inventive repurposing of prop items organised by Bea and Natalie transformed the stage into a world where anything seemed possible, especially a car that could fly! Lighting operated by Teyla and sound controlled by Emma and Imani added magic at just the right moments, enhancing both the storytelling and the iconic musical numbers. The swift changes of scene accomplished by Lottie, Helena, Satya, Chloe, Darcy and Betty kept the action moving as did the occasional prompt from Taya.

Of course, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR would not be complete without its unforgettable songs, and our students delivered them with confidence and enthusiasm. From the touching “Hushabye Mountain” to the joyful “Toot Sweets,” each number showcased the hard work and musical dedication of the cast.

This production was a testament to the collaborative spirit of Sexey’s school community. Students supported one another with maturity and generosity, staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and families cheered with pride. It was more than a performance, it was a joyful reminder of what our students can achieve when creativity meets commitment.

Congratulations to everyone involved for creating a truly fantasmagorical production!
