Year 12 STEM Ambassadors Inspire Hundreds During Science Week Outreach

Our Year 12 STEM Ambassadors recently took part in a highly successful outreach programme as part of British Science Week, visiting local primary schools to share their enthusiasm for science with younger pupils.

Over the course of the project, students visited four local primary schools—Bruton Primary School, Ditcheat Primary School, Upton Noble Primary School and Evercreech Church of England Primary School—delivering engaging, hands-on workshops to more than 450 children from Reception through to Year 6.

The initiative followed six weeks of preparation, during which our Year 12 students designed and developed seven unique science workshops. Each ambassador then took on the responsibility of independently leading a full class session for an hour, focusing on an area of science they are particularly passionate about.

Activities were wide-ranging and highly interactive, including creating light paintings, launching rockets, carrying out lung dissections, and experimenting with non-Newtonian fluids. These sessions not only captivated the younger pupils but also showcased the creativity, confidence, and leadership skills of our sixth form students.

The experience proved invaluable for the STEM Ambassadors, helping them to further develop their communication and leadership abilities while inspiring a younger generation of scientists.

Emily Jacabs from Upton Nobel Primary said ‘Thank you so much for your visit last week. The children absolutely loved it.’

We are extremely grateful to the staff and pupils at all four primary schools for their warm welcome and support in making the programme such a success.
