School Celebrates World Book Day with Costumes, Creativity and Community Spirit

Students and staff came together in spectacular fashion to celebrate World Book Day on 5th March, with a full day of activities that brought books to life across the school community.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a lively treasure hunt and tested their knowledge in a “Guess the Teacher’s Costume” challenge. There were also opportunities to capture the creativity on display, with photos and prizes awarded for the most impressive costumes.

Adding to the excitement, school staff fully embraced the celebrations by taking part in a shared Peter Pan theme, with characters from Neverland appearing across the school and delighting students throughout the day.

A particular highlight of the day saw eight Year 9 students delight Year 7 pupils by reading to them during tutor time. The books were specially selected from the school’s Christmas book appeal donations, making the experience even more meaningful.

A special thank you goes to:

  • Nellie B and Naomi I, who read from Medusa
  • Taya S and Lottie S, who read from Catch Your Death
  • Bea G and Delilah B, who read from The Girls I’ve Been
  • Harry P and Senan D, who read from Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief

The event also highlighted the many benefits of reading, including building vocabulary, reducing stress, boosting imagination, and improving writing and brain function—while remaining one of the most enjoyable pastimes.

Staff praised the incredible effort made by students across all year groups in dressing up for the occasion, noting how difficult it was to choose winners among so many imaginative entries.
