Summer End of Term Newsletter

Welcome to our Summer End of Term Newsletter 2025!

Dear Parents,

This summer marks the end of my first full term as Headteacher at Sexey’s, and what a privilege it has been. From my first day, I’ve been struck by the warmth and strength of this community—our students, staff, parents and carers working together to support the success and wellbeing of every young person.

One of the most joyful moments this year was being recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the happiest secondary schools in England and Wales. With a 98% score, placing us in the top 2% of secondary schools nationally and first in Somerset and North Somerset, this is a powerful endorsement of the nurturing, supportive environment we work hard to create every day.

We were also extremely proud to be awarded the School of Character Quality Mark by The Association for Character Education. This honour reflects the strong values embedded across the school and our collective commitment—staff, students and families—to helping our young people grow into compassionate, resilient individuals who are ready to face the world with integrity.

Our boarding community has gone from strength to strength, and we were delighted that Ofsted once again awarded our boarding provision a ‘Good’ rating. I’d like to especially commend our Coombe House boarders, who raised over £1,000 for local CIC Good Company Bruton by climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest—an extraordinary 49,700 steps. Their effort and teamwork perfectly represent the spirit of Sexey’s. Academically, we continue to support ambition and excellence.

We’ve seen a significant number of our Year 13 students receive offers from Russell Group universities, and I am excited to celebrate their results this summer. Whether heading to university, beginning apprenticeships, taking gap years or moving into the world of work, we are proud of their journeys and confident they will go on to do great things.

Our school fundraising efforts have once again shown what’s possible when a community comes together. Thanks to our parents, staff, volunteers, and the support of local businesses, events like our Fireworks Night and Quiz Night were not only a great success but also provided meaningful support for our school. We are also extremely grateful to those that supported our Christmas Library Appeal and the Summer Raffle.

As I reflect on the summer term, I want to thank all of you for the trust, support and encouragement you’ve shown. Strong home–school partnerships are key to student success, and we truly value the relationships we’ve built. I also want to take a moment to recognise our exceptional staff, whose dedication, resilience and care for our students are the foundation of all we achieve.

On behalf of everyone at Sexey’s, I wish you and your family a relaxing and happy summer. We look forward to welcoming you back in September as we continue our journey to ensure every student leaves us as a kind, confident, articulate and successful young person—well prepared for life beyond school.

Warm regards,

Mr Clayson, Headteacher
