STEM Challenge Day for Year 8’s

STEM Challenge Day for Year 8’s

60 students from Year 8 took part in a STEM Challenge day to design and build a model aircraft hosted by Fred Boucher from The Smallpeice Trust.

The ‘Road to Riat’ challenge took students on an inspiring journey into the world of STEM.

This has been a fun and interactive STEM Challenge where the students have worked in groups of 6 to design and build a prototype lander and then pitch their ideas to the rest of the groups. The students have worked incredibly hard and their enthusiasm cannot be faulted – when the warning bell sounded after break they all swarmed straight back in and were straight on task building their prototypes long before the lesson actually started!

We would like to say a big thank you to Fred from The Smallpeice Trust for providing this opportunity and to Mrs Radford-James, Head of Science for organising the event for our students.

Fred was very impressed with their ideas and focus and we hope there may be many budding engineers and designers amongst them in the future. Congratulations to our winning teams.
