Bronze for Mr Fauceglia in the Hockey World Cup
Congratulations to Mr Fauceglia on winning a Bronze Medal at the England Men’s O40s Masters World Cup.
Mr Fauceglia, who teaches Computer Science and A Level Business Studies, travelled to Cape Town, South Africa as part of the England Men’s O40s squad last month.
Having represented the West of England 35s and 40s, he trialed and was selected as part of the European Championship winning side last year and re-selected for the World Cup this October.
England’s relatively changed squad for this World Cup were drawn in a group against home nation South Africa, USA and Australia IMC. An initially disappointing 4-2 opening loss against SA were then put right with wins against USA (7-1) and Australia IMC (2-1). That set up an encounter with Germany in the Quarter final, a repeat of the European final last year, with England eventually grinding out a nail biting 4-3 win.
The semi final was a repeat of the group opener. SA took the lead in the second quarter with a deflected penalty corner, England drew level in the third with penalty corner of their own but in the last few minutes of the 4th the ex Olympian studded SA side nabbed a winner.
Disappointingly that meant a Bronze medal match against New Zealand in which England were the deserved 6-3 winners putting the team third on the medals taken.
Huge congratulations to Mr Fauceglia and his team!
