Harry Cobden

Harry was a boarding pupil at Sexey’s School between 2010 and 2014. He was a popular student and a keen member of the equestrian team.

Having left school at 16 to pursue his career as a jockey and over the last three years he has progressed to a professional level riding for two of the top trainers in the country – Mr Tizzard and Mr Nicholls who are both based in the South West.

In 2016-17 Harry was the winner of the conditional jockeys championship (this is similar to being an apprenticeship before going professional), with 60 winners, 24 ahead of his nearest rival.

In 2017 he completed the Grand National at Aintree on “Just A Par”, finishing 14th and in 2018 rode “The Dutchman” but was unfortunately unseated whilst in a very strong position.

On 1 June 1918 while racing at Market Rasen, Harry fell off Mick Thonic and broke his neck. Thankfully he only needed 4 months off to recover and finished the year winning the King George on Boxing Day. Despite missing 4 months of the season he still managed to ride 109 winners.

Harry, 21, is the No 1 rider for local champion trainer, Paul Nicholls of Ditcheat.
