Tae Kwon Do Championship Success for two Sexey’s students

Congratulations to Lilly W and Abigail R who have both won medals this year at the South West, English and Welsh Tae Kwon Do Championships.

Lilly who is in Year 10 started Tae Kwon Do when she was just 7 and has achieved her Black Belt 1st Dan. Lilly won a Silver Medal at the South West Championships in February and has since won a Gold Medal at the at the English Championships in March and a Silver Medal at the Welsh Championship in Cardiff in May.

Year 12 student Abigail started Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) when she was 4 and is a Black Belt 2nd Dan. In September last year Abigail switched to Tae Kwon Do (TAGB) and has achieved her Green Belt. Abigail won a Gold and a Silver Medal at the South West Championship in February, 2 Gold and 1 Silver Medal at the British Championship in March, 1 Bronze, 1 Silver and 1 Gold at the English Championship in March and 1 Gold and 2 Silver Medals at the Welsh Championship in Cardiff in May.

As Lilly is under 16, she is unable to grade for her Black Belt 2nd Dan so is working on achieving her 2nd Star and Abigail has her sights set on achieving her Black Belt.

Both Lilly and Abigail have been selected to join the Welsh Tae Kwon Do Squad and will continue their training to compete in the Tae Kwon Do World Championships in 2027.

Lilly said “Competing in the World Championships in 2023 was a great experience but my aim is to compete in the Worlds in 2027 and come home with a medal.” She added “Tae Kwon Do helps you physically and mentally and you make so many new friends, it’s like a big family.”

Well done to both Lilly and Abigail on their success this year and we look forward to following them on their journey to the World Championships.
