European Success for Mr Fauceglia
Mr Fauceglia our Head of ICT and Computer Science and his England Hockey Over 40’s Masters Team have become European Champions after winning the European Championship held last week in Nottingham.
They beat Germany 5-0 to get into the semi-finals where they beat France by 4 goals to 2. In the final they faced a tough German side but came out champions with a 4-0 win.
Last November England Hockey invited Mr Fauceglia and other players to an initial open trial and then held a further three trials and a selection weekend playing against the England over 35s side. Both the over 40s and Over 35s were World cup winning sides last year and composed of some current National league players.
Mr Fauceglia said “I started out playing Hockey on grass for my local village side when I was 15, just a bit of a social on a Sunday really as my school only did Football and Rugby in the winter months and I just love playing sport. I had stopped playing Football as I’d broken my leg! I didn’t pursue Hockey at University but picked it back up when I started at Sexey’s as I got chatting with a colleague who invited me along to try out for Shepton.
He continued “The rest is history as they say. I still play for Shepton Mallet. I have played for them for 17 years with 10 of these in the 1st XI. We currently play in the “South Conference” which is two divisions below the national league.”
We would like to congratulate Mr Fauceglia on this amazing achievement and hope that he enjoys a relaxing summer break when it comes.
