Top performing Sixth Form!
We’re delighted to announce that Sexey’s Sixth is the top performing state Sixth Form in Somerset and Dorset. This is according to official data by the Department for Education, based on the progress students make while undertaking A Levels.
By the same measure, Sexey’s Sixth also ranked fifth highest in Somerset among all Sixth Forms (including independent schools) and third highest in the whole of England for a Church of England Academy. It is also the second highest performing state boarding school nationally.
This builds on the announcement just before Christmas that Sexey’s Sixth has been placed in the top 10% of schools nationally for A Levels by independent data analysis and educational philosophy provider, Alps Education.
The analysis was undertaken on A Level performance for 2,996 schools and colleges across the UK in 2019 and resulted in us receiving a Certificate of Outstanding Progress from Alps. The data analysed is based on our three-year A Level score.
Commenting, Mrs H Cullen said: “To be ranked so highly by official government data is an amazing endorsement of the hard work that our students and teaching staff put in. We are so proud that we are the top performing school in Somerset and Dorset for such an important measure as progress. We strive to help our students achieve the very best of which they are capable. This is largely down to our caring, aspirational environment where students are supported and challenged to ensure each and every one achieves their full potential and leaves us fully prepared for the next stage in their journey of lifelong learning. As a state boarding school, those Sixth Formers who choose to board with us also leave us well prepared for life away from home at university.”
Mr J Moise, Director of Sixth Form added: “We have known that we had outstanding examination results again this year, but this comparison data and endorsement from Alps is particularly pleasing as they reflect how much better each student has achieved than they might have done, because they came to Sexey’s Sixth Form. We have a rigorous programme of extracurricular activities to advance all students. We welcome anyone looking for their next steps after GCSE to visit us to see what we have to offer.”
Following examination results in 2019, 49% of Sexey’s Sixth’s Year 13 leavers went on to attend Russell Group universities.
