Pink Friday Total!
The school came together for a charity day on October 18th – known nationally as Pink Friday – to raise money for cancer care and research charity Breast Cancer Now. The students raised an incredible total of £2485.24 for the charity in commemoration of Ms Budd and Ms Holmes – two very special teachers, colleagues and friends who both sadly passed away earlier this year, having lost their battles with cancer.
The School’s magazine team, comprising Imogen B, Emily D, Erin H, Izzie L and Daisy S-R, organised the mufti day to include a bake sale, glitter painting and flag raising in school. Meanwhile, Sexey’s Sixth Former and Macmillan House boarder Tilly A-D arranged an extensive raffle with prizes donated from businesses across Bruton and beyond, including meals, beauty packages, cheese and wine prizes.
Mrs B Hael, supported by the rest of the KDR staff, generously baked over 200 pink muffins for the day, which culminated in an assembly in memory of Ms Budd and Ms Holmes. Students wrote and read poems, readings and sang music in their memory.
Mrs Cullen said: “We were all incredibly moved to have lost two such inspirational teachers, colleagues and friends to our school and boarding community. I believe they would have been proud to have witnessed the hard work, dedication and generosity of the students in arranging, executing and participating in Pink Friday. Thank you to everyone involved – I’m delighted that we are donating such a considerable sum to a very worthy cause, all in Ms Budd and Ms Holmes’ names.”
