Somerset Pentathlon champ!

Somerset Pentathlon champ!

A huge congratulations to boarding student Will H, who competed for Somerset in the National Schools Combined Events Finals in the Junior Boys Pentathlon competition in Exeter this weekend.

He competed across the hurdles, shot putt, high jump, long jump and 800m and secured personal best performances in 4 of the 5 individual events, as well as his overall Pentathlon score. Most significantly he knocked a whole second off his hurdles time, 5 seconds off his 800m time and added 21cm to his high jump since the regional qualifier, indeed his 800m time was the 4th fastest of all the competitors. Overall he finished in 14th place in the country – to put it in perspective he secured the very final qualifying place for the national final so essentially began the competition ranked 42nd out of the 42 competitors. A fantastic feat to climb so far!

He really was a credit to himself, the school and the county team, supporting his rivals and celebrating their achievements with them. Well done Will!
