Youngest Cadet appointed RSM

A huge congratulations to our Sixth Form student Albert, who is celebrating his promotion to the position of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) in the Somerset Army Cadet Force (ACF) – making him the youngest Cadet to have ever achieved the role.

Albert was appointed to the role – the most senior position for over 600 Somerset Cadets – on the completion of his four-day Master Cadet course at the Cadet Training Centre in the summer, following a competitive interview in front of a panel of high ranking Officers.

Commanding Officer Lt Col BH Brotherton said, “Albert is a young man with an aptitude for leadership. He should be encouraged to take the fore at every opportunity as he works towards his ambition of becoming an Army Officer. Well done.”

Commenting, Albert said, “It is a real privilege to have been appointed to the role of RSM for the coming year. I am especially proud to learn that I’m the youngest Cadet in the position. Acting as the liaison link between the adult Force and the Cadets, I look forward to being able to drive improvements and act as a role model to the younger Cadets. I’m particularly grateful for the opportunity as I hope to forge a career as an Army Officer, following my school education.”

Albert is the second Cadet in 25 years of our school history to have achieved the position of RSM. Students parade at the Castle Cary platoon on a Monday night. The platoon is open to all students aged 12 and over and transport is provided to and from Castle Cary for all boarders. To learn more, please visit our ACF webpage here
