Dissection, genomics and stimulating the brain
Lucia Elliott, Y13 reports
On the 10th of January, 20 students in Years 12 and 13 attended the 25th Biology and Psychology Symposium at Millfield School. The day consisted of three workshop sessions on exam skills, the biology of birds of prey, lower limb dissections, relaxation techniques and many others.
As well as this, three lecture sessions were run on brain stimulation, antidepressants, app based intervention for autistic children, the genomics revolution (given by Yourgene Health’s Hayden Jeffreys), the oceans and fishing pressures (given by University of Plymouth’s Professor Martin Attrill), and ion channels (given by University of Oxford’s Professor Dame Frances Ashcroft). It was an interesting and informative trip, which explored interests outside of normal lessons and supported our careers preparation. Thank you to everyone involved in enabling the trip.
