Religion/PHSE

Religion and Philosophy

All students at Sexey’s study Religion and Philosophy as a discrete subject in years 7-11. We follow the Somerset Agreed Syllabus with an emphasis on philosophical enquiry and exploring ideas. The students are taken on a journey of discovery where they explore key issues and ideas that have shaped life and culture in our world today. At some point during Key Stage 3 they are introduced to all six major world religions.
At Key stage 4 all students follow the Edexcel Religious Studies full course GCSE . The two modules covered are Religion and Society and Religion and Life.

PSHE/ Citizenship

At Key stage 3 these two subject areas are integrated. All students have an hour a week where they follow a course called “Your Life”. The course uses a wide range of learning experiences including group work, role play, IT research as well as more factual knowledge which underpins the more experiential aspects.
At Key stage 4 the PSHE components are delivered through collapsed timetable activities where guest speakers and outside agencies come in to share their expertise to support the groundwork which has been one by staff at the school. There are also visits out of school eg to Parliament.
The National Curriculum subject content at this level is delivered through the Full course Religious Studies course outlined above.
