Lisbury House

Lisbury House was opened in 1983, and was named after the old farm, which previously occupied the site. It was built as part of a massive extension to the boarding facilities at Sexey's, making us one of the largest providers of state boarding education in the United Kingdom. We now provide accommodation for around 85 senior pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13.

At the centre of the Lisbury site is the Common Room, the main meeting point for all the students and for those who want to watch television, play pool, darts or table football or simply to make tea and toast and have a chat.

The boarding house is arranged to one side of the common room in separate wings for girls and boys, with the residential staff accommodation located in the centre of the boarding house and at both ends.   Each wing of the boarding house has its own tv room so that the students can have their own space when they want to.

Lisbury has four residential house staff on site and a team of non-residential staff that are on duty during the weekday evenings.  GAP students are also accommodated on the Lisbury site and are on duty during the evening and help in running activities.  The prefects take a role in the running of Lisbury and they together with the staff, are always available to listen to any concerns that students may have.

The Matron is non-residential and has a team of ancillary staff who are responsible for the cleaning of the boarding house and for the student’s laundry.  The students can organise their own personal laundry when the washing machines are available during the evening.

The dormitories are a mixture of 3 bed, 2 bed and single bed rooms and boarders will be expected to share during years 11 and 12; the year 13 students will be given single bed rooms wherever possible.  Each dorm is furnished complete with a work station for the students to use during study and prep times.Lisbury Rest

Another meeting point on the Lisbury site is the Coffee Shop.  Located on the ground floor of The Stables it is open two or three nights a week and sells hot and cold drinks and toasties with various fillings from its fully equipped kitchen.  The coffee shop is run by the students and is open to the other boarding houses and gives those involved their first experience of running a business.

The upper floor of The Stables is the 6th Form Common Room for use by years 12 and 13 only.  Equipped with tv and furnished with a variety of sofas it also makes for a quiet area away from the main common roomLisbury Barn.

The final building on the Lisbury site is The Barn which houses the laundry and piano room at ground floor.  The upper floor has a suite of computer terminals linked to the school network and a series of workstations for those who prefer to study and complete their prep away from the dorms.

The house is run by Richard and Jenny Hinks assisted by Karen Baker and Peter Turner. They are assisted by the foreign GAP students whose accomodation is nearby.
