The Students are encouraged to pursue extra curricular activities during their free time. The house provides rooms where the students can pursue their hobbies and interests. Planned activities are available on 2 evenings a week and are run by school staff or outside experts. These activities can be carried out in the house or one of the many of the schools facilities can be used or if need be, at a specialist centre. Students are allowed into Bruton, in school uniform, at designated times.
The students are expected to look after their personal areas and they are given ample storage space for their personal possessions. Mobile phones are allowed but they must be handed in at night. The students are encouraged to mix and a large common room is available for recreational activities. The Common Room includes a television and a pool table, together with several PCs linked to the school intranet. Other rooms also have televisions and games consoles for the boarders to use.
The House is equipped with washing machines and driers and is situated close to the Swimming Pool, Sports Hall and Health Centre. The Sports Hall and Swimming Pool are used regularly by Cliff House in the evenings for swimming, football and badminton. The House also has its own orchard, where students can play at any time.
There are generally three members of staff on duty between 7pm and 10pm, and two during the day at weekends. Should the situation arise, a senior member of staff is available on call. Regular fire drills are held and the House is equipped with the latest fire systems. Entry to the House is governed by chipped key fobs. These also allow access to the boarders at certain times and 24-hour access to the staff. No access is available unless a key fob is used.
