Sexey’s is a Boarding School, not a school with boarding. With around 300 boarders Sexey’s is a market leader in the provision of state boarding education, being the largest provider in the South-West of England. We provide affordable high quality boarding with the care, welfare and happiness of students being our prime consideration – as we are a maintained school the education is free.
We provide a rounded education with great emphasis on moral and spiritual development and the acquisition of leadership skills as well as on very high academic success. Our students are given the opportunity to take part in a huge range of activities and we encourage them to have a say in how the school runs and to organize activities and events for themselves. All students do a period of organized After School Learning (homework) each evening.
We have four co-educational boarding houses, with boys and girls sharing common rooms and social activities. Dormitory areas for boys and girls are quite separate from each other. This gives a homely atmosphere where boarders can have fun but provides a safe and secure environment allowing the privacy to relax. We have a well equipped Health Centre with a fully qualified nurse on duty at all times. Each boarding house has its own character and students quickly settle into their home from home, developing strong house loyalties that, our ex-students tell us, last for life.
At the weekends students may opt to go home, but those remaining in the houses can expect an enjoyable weekend. There are regular workshops on Saturday mornings such as falconry, hip-hop dance and clowning. We arrange a huge variety of trips out to local, and sometimes more distant, attractions. Theme parks, local walks, karting, local and London theatre, shopping trips, paintball, Davis Cup Tennis, Six Nations Rugby, mountain boarding and surfing have all featured in the past year. Most of our weekly boarders stay in for some weekends when they wish to take part in a particular activity.
We do recognize that the students need some time to recuperate at the end of a busy week and we do give them that chance where possible with later waking up times and the opportunity to relax with a swim, a bit of cooking or craft, and a DVD from time to time.
