I hope you enjoy browsing through our website and that it will encourage you to find out more about this unusual and very special school.
Our aim at Sexey’s is to support the individual to fulfil their potential both academically and socially. We believe that this is achieved by setting high standards of teaching, learning and care.
We offer a wide range of GCSE subjects and have a proven record of success. In 2009, 85% of pupils gained 5 or more A* - C grades at GCSE, placing the school high up in the league tables nationally and locally. A large number of pupils continue into the Sixth Form to take AS and A Levels. Sexey’s Sixth Form provides an excellent choice of courses and a variety of activities and opportunities for leadership. Nearly all our Sixth Form leavers choose to go on to higher education, most securing places on their first choice courses. In 2009 we had our record results at “A” level, with 58% of passes being at A or B grades.
Sexey’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School, linked with the Diocese of Bath and Wells and the Team Ministry of Bruton, which reflects the Christian nature of the school’s original foundation. We believe that a balanced education should encourage the spiritual and moral as well as the academic, practical, aesthetic and physical development of children. While Acts of Collective Worship are based on Christian Values and teaching, the school recognises and supports the multi-faith nature of our society and encourages the students to be understanding, tolerant and respectful of others.
Sexey’s has over 270 boarders, which makes us a major boarding school. Our boarding facilities and the rhythms of the day, the week and the term, reflect this emphasis, so that parents may rest assured that we offer a full boarding programme with the considerable educational and life-skills benefits which that brings.
In September 2008 the school became a Humanities College as part of the government’s specialist schools program. We are the Sixth Form College for this area of Somerset. We have strong links with the local community, but Sexey’s will always remain one of the leading state boarding schools in terms of size and provision, and we will continue to regard ourselves as a specialist boarding school, maintaining the highest level of provision and care for our boarders at all times. The opportunity for social and personal development which boarding affords is a driving force of the school and will continue to determine our ethos for all the students. We chose Humanities as our specialism as we feel it not only reflects our shared values and vision but we also feel that it will help to support us in preparing students for worldwide issues such as the global economy, sustainable environment and international dimensions.
The Governors and staff of Sexey’s School are determined to offer the very best service to our students and parents.
Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification of any point in this prospectus. My colleagues and I look forward to meeting you.
