Sexey’s School appoints Gill Kelly as Interim Headteacher

Friday 1 September 2017: Sexey’s School’s Board of Governors today announces that it has appointed Mrs Gill Kelly, an experienced interim and consultant leader of secondary schools, as Interim Headteacher with immediate effect. The appointment follows the news in July that Mr Irfan Latif, Sexey’s current Headmaster, will be leaving the School to take up a new Headship at the end of the calendar year.

Mrs Kelly has a wealth of successful leadership experience including multiple senior roles across the UK, most recently as Interim Executive Principal at the Wellspring Academies Trust in Lincolnshire, where she led the centre from its previous Ofsted rating of Special Measures towards becoming Outstanding at its latest HMI monitoring visit. She is Former Principal at City Academy in Bristol, a role that she occupied for four years. She is also currently a leadership coach for Women in Leadership and a member of the Board of Trustees for the CoED Foundation. She is author of Where will I do my Pineapples?, a book about building a whole new school based on her experience.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Mike Bowman, Sexey’s Chairman of Governors, said, “Since the end of last term, the governing body has considered it our priority to appoint an Interim Head with extensive secondary school leadership experience to ensure that there is no discontinuity or potential for instability between Mr Latif’s departure and the arrival of a new permanent Headteacher. The coming terms are crucial ones for the School and we are delighted to have appointed a leader of Mrs Kelly’s calibre and with her expertise to lead us through them. In addition, the School continues to be supported by the Bristol Cathedral Teaching School Alliance, which has been overseeing the school improvement process.”

Mrs Kelly added, “Sexey’s School has an excellent reputation, not only for the quality of its teaching and consistently strong results at both GCSE and A Level, but also for the extracurricular opportunities it affords its students. I look forward to working alongside Mr Latif for the coming months and taking the School forward as the search for a permanent Head continues.”
